Quincy Updates Electric Aggregation Rates as Ameren Supply Price Dips Slightly Below City Program

The city says the difference through May amounts to about 50 cents per 1,000 kilowatt-hours, while households that participated in the aggregation program during August and September may still come out ahead overall.

QUINCY, Ill. The city of Quincy has released an update comparing its municipal electric aggregation program with Ameren Illinois after Ameren’s residential electric supply rate changed for the fall and winter months.

Ameren Illinois’ residential electric supply rate is now 10.44 cents per kilowatt-hour for October 2026 through May 2027, according to the city.

Quincy’s municipal electric aggregation rate through Homefield Energy is 10.49 cents per kilowatt-hour during that same period.

That puts Ameren’s current supply rate slightly below the city’s aggregation rate, although the difference is relatively small.

The city estimates the difference at approximately 50 cents for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity used.

For a household using about 6,000 kilowatt-hours between October and May, Ameren’s lower rate would amount to approximately $3 in savings compared with the Homefield Energy aggregation rate.

Earlier savings factor into comparison

The city noted that the comparison changes when August and September are included.

During those two months, Ameren’s electric supply rate was higher than the rate available through Quincy’s aggregation program.

According to the city’s estimate, a typical household participating in the aggregation program saved approximately $25.08 during August and September.

After subtracting the estimated $3 advantage Ameren would have from October through May, the city estimates that the same household would still have net savings of approximately $22.08 through the period covering August 2026 through May 2027.

Actual savings will vary depending on how much electricity each household uses.

Homefield agreement runs through 2027

Quincy’s municipal aggregation agreement with Homefield Energy continues through December 2027.

Ameren’s supply rate beginning in June 2027 has not yet been established, meaning the cost comparison could change again next summer.

Municipal electric aggregation programs allow participating communities to negotiate an electricity supply rate for eligible residents while Ameren continues to deliver the electricity, maintain the distribution system and handle billing.

Residents already participating in Quincy’s Homefield Energy aggregation program do not need to take any action to remain enrolled.

Those who decide they would rather return to Ameren’s supply rate may opt out of the aggregation program at no cost by contacting Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262.

The city’s latest update illustrates how the two rates can move above or below one another over time. While Ameren currently holds a slight price advantage through May, the city says savings from the aggregation program earlier this year continue to leave the typical participating household ahead based on its estimates.
