Quincy Police Say No New Information Available in Downtown Death Investigation
The Quincy Police Department and Adams County Coronerβs Office continue investigating the death of 24-year-old Destinie Sue Daniels, who was found Thursday evening inside an apartment in the former downtown post office building.
QUINCY, Ill. The Quincy Police Department said Monday morning that its investigation into the death of a young woman found inside the former downtown post office building remains active, and authorities are not releasing additional information at this time.
The city issued a brief statement as public interest and social media discussion surrounding the case have continued to grow.
βThe Quincy Police Department continues to investigate the death discovered Thursday evening at the former downtown post office building.
βAt this time, there is no additional information available for release, and no media interviews will be conducted. To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, additional information will be released when appropriate.β
“We ask the media and public to respect the privacy of the family and refrain from speculation or sharing unconfirmed information.”
The investigation began Thursday evening after police responded to the former post office building at 200 N. Eighth St., which now contains apartments. Officers had been called to the building for a wellness check and discovered a body inside one of the apartments.
The Adams County Coronerβs Office later said the woman had been tentatively identified as Destinie S. Daniels, 24.
Adams County Coroner Scott Graham said the preliminary identification was based on information from family members and witnesses. Because of the condition of the body, the Coronerβs Office obtained dental records and was awaiting examination by a forensic odontologist to confirm the identification.
Danielsβ cause and manner of death have not been publicly determined.
Graham previously said the cause of death remained pending additional studies and the joint investigation by the Adams County Coronerβs Office and Quincy Police Department.
Police Urge Patience as Investigation Continues
The discovery has generated considerable discussion across social media, including speculation about the circumstances surrounding Danielsβ death, and a possible person of interest.
At this point, however, authorities have not publicly announced how Daniels died, whether investigators believe criminal activity was involved or whether anyone is considered a suspect.
The cityβs statement Monday makes clear that investigators are limiting the release of additional information while the case remains active.
That distinction is important as unconfirmed claims continue to circulate online.
Quincy Current will report additional details when they are released by law enforcement or the Coronerβs Office and will avoid publishing unverified speculation surrounding the case.
For now, the death remains under investigation, with police saying additional information will be released when investigators determine it is appropriate.
