Quincy Police Labor Day Campaign Reports No DUI Arrests, Dozens of Traffic Citations
QPD says its holiday enforcement effort focused on impaired driving, seat belt use, speeding and distracted driving as part of a broader statewide safety campaign.
QUINCY, Ill. The Quincy Police Department is reporting the results of its Labor Day traffic safety campaign, with officers recording no arrests for driving under the influence during the enforcement period while issuing dozens of citations for other traffic violations.
The campaign was conducted as part of Illinois’ statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, which bring local agencies together with state highway safety partners during heavily traveled holiday periods.
According to QPD, officers issued 16 seat belt citations, including one during nighttime hours, along with 17 speeding citations.
Additional enforcement included 13 cell phone citations, six citations for uninsured motor vehicles, five for expired registrations and six for suspended or revoked registrations.
While the campaign resulted in no DUI arrests, QPD said the enforcement effort was designed not only to identify violations, but also to remind motorists about the dangers associated with impaired and unsafe driving.
“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving, ‘It’s Not a Game,’” Sgt. Witt said in the department’s release.
The results reflect another proactive effort by Quincy police to maintain a visible presence on local roads during a holiday weekend when traffic volume can increase and the risks associated with impaired, distracted or unsafe driving can become more pronounced.
The absence of DUI arrests during the campaign is a positive outcome for the community, although it does not by itself establish that impaired driving was entirely absent during the enforcement period. Still, the combination of targeted patrols, public awareness and enforcement is intended to deter dangerous behavior before it results in a crash or injury.
QPD worked alongside other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across Illinois during the Labor Day campaign.
The initiative was supported through federal highway safety funding administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
For Quincy residents, the campaign represents the kind of behind-the-scenes enforcement work that often receives less attention than major criminal investigations but remains central to everyday public safety. By focusing on impaired driving, speeding, seat belt use and distracted driving, QPD continued its broader effort to reduce preventable crashes and keep Quincy’s streets safer for motorists, passengers and pedestrians alike.
